A Real Italiano Antipasto Platter

A Real Italiano Antipasto Platter

A sweet and savoury assortment

Traditionally, an Italian antipasto (meaning “before food”) is served as a starter, but this classic Mediterranean platter can be served as light finger food for any occasion. It’s very much a blank canvas that’s tricky to go wrong with, so feel free to play around with it – perhaps some fresh crusty bread or artisanal breadsticks, or sweet carrot batons or grilled peppers to compliment the cured meats. Generally, a selection of sweet and savoury flavours is a good way to approach antipasto. The presentation is also very flexible – simply arrange ingredients on a large plate or wooden serving board, interchanging the sweet with the savoury for a balanced range of flavours.

Quick tip: there is no need to be overly neat with the food arrangement of an antipasto platter. A slightly more ‘messy’ look will feel more rustic and homemade.

Crowd pleaser

An Italian platter is a convenient way to satisfy different tastes and diets if you are hosting. On top of the traditional cured meats, add sweet fruits and vegetables, and you could opt for vegan cheese alternatives as well as gluten-free bread options. It’s also a good idea to add a selection of dips and sauces for extra flavour and texture. The oil from the Bio Gustiamo products are great for adding an authentic Mediterranean flavour, and the selection of balsamic vinegars from Casa Rinaldi are available in an orange, fig and chilli pepper glaze, which are perfect for balancing the savoury with the sweet.

Authentic antipasti from Real Italiano

Sourced locally from Mediterranean producers, Real Italiano offer a wide range of authentic and organic Italian products suitable for putting an antipasto platter together. Many ingredients are gluten-free and vegan, so there are plenty of options to adapt your platter to any dietary needs.

Artichokes are a staple among Italian platters. The Bio Gustiamo Grilled Artichokes are seasoned with aromatic spices and preserved exclusively in organic extra virgin olive oil, offering packs of flavour and fragrance to your antipasto.

Fun fact: Antipasto (singular, or ‘antipasti’, plural), is a traditional starter in Italian meals. The meaning of the word is very literal - it derives from the Latin words “anti”, meaning “before”, and “pastus”, meaning “meal”.
